We are really excited about strength-based leadership, and hope to pass our enthusiasm onto you! This page is intended to give you more information about WHAT strength-based leadership is, WHY one should use it, and an introduction to how you can discover your own strengths!

What is "strengths-based" leadership?

Strengths-based leadership is about focusing on one's strengths. Leaders are expected to excel at everything, and to have very few weaknesses. In reality, a leader will likely be an expert in a specific area only, despite a range of qualifications and experience, and this doesn't guarantee they'll succeed elsewhere.

Benefits of Strengths-Based Leadership

Improve consensus, delegation and engagement.

  • Using a strengths-based approach allows leaders to develop a more consensual leadership style so they focus on what they do best.

  • Leaders can use this approach to identify team members' strengths and encourage them to use these in a way that benefits everyone.

  •  Encouraging people to focus on their strengths increases team member enjoyment and engagement.

Organizational Alignment

  • Organizations are more effective when they have the right people, doing the right work.

  • Diverse teams with a range of strengths and skill-sets aligned to their strengths are more productive and engaged.

Why use a strengths-based approach?

Leveraging strengths improves key performance outcomes.

A 2015 study conducted by Gallup looked at more than 1 million individuals and nearly 50,000 businesses demonstrated the powerful connections between employee strengths and organizational performance. Regardless of the organization’s industry or geography key performance outcomes were significantly affected by developing employee’s strengths.

Creating a strengths-based workplace not only brings out the best in employees — it improves organizational success. Businesses reported increases in profit by 29%, and employee engagement increased by 15%. Organizations reported significant decreases in safety related accidents by as much as 59%.

Discover My Strengths

What Are Your Strengths?

You need to know the answer to this question.

There are a few things you can count on in your career---you will have to deal with some type of change—leadership or organizational or both, you will be asked to solve a problem and have no idea where to find the answer, and finally you will be asked what your greatest strength is.

Knowing the answer to  what your "greatest" strengths are will be the key to how you cope with change, and your ability to solve problems along with a myriad of other obstacles. Knowing your strengths will help you navigate change and become a world-class problem solver.

Whenever it happens, you will want to be able to identify your strengths and understand how to leverage them for maximum impact. Your strengths, simply put, are the things you do best. Your strengths come naturally, and are innate to who you fundamentally are, and yet we often have difficulty articulating what they are and how we can use them.

Whether you are a student trying to decide on your major, new to a professional career, a new leader or a seasoned professional you need to know your strengths, how to define them and most importantly how to leverage them in a way that personally fulfills you and your organization’s bottom line is essential.

Strengths Discovery

Strength Leaders Advisory is based on the idea when we work from a position of strength we can accomplish great things. All too often we have been told our deficiencies--our “opportunities”are in need of development. Companies spend a great amount of time and money “developing” these areas and the truth is no matter how much time and money we spend we’ll never be really great in these areas.

This practice is founded on the Gallup organization’s research, backed by renown psychologist Donald Clifton’s premise, the potential for growth is greater when an investment in energy in developing our strengths is made instead of correcting our deficiencies.

The research is astounding, people who have the opportunity to focus on their strengths every day are 6x as likely to be engaged in their jobs and more than 3x as likely to report having an excellent quality of life in general. Every aspect of the services we provide is founded in this research.

If you are simply interested in discovering your strengths, you can purchase the book Strengthsfinder 2.0 © and take the accompanying online assessment.

The services Strength Leaders Advisory offers builds upon the strengths discovery and provides the opportunity to understand what you can do with your strengths and how to nurture and development them throughout your career. Perhaps most importantly, we will show you how to leverage your strengths to reach maximum potential.

Using the knowledge obtained from the assessment we help you, your team or your organization be agile and responsive to change, drive high performance, and gain competitive innovation and advantage.
